Recovering from Chicago Marathon Training with OOFOS

I am in the middle of training for the Chicago Marathon, my 3rd marathon of the year and my second World Major. One of my biggest issues with training is my feet. My feet usually hurt for a few days after long runs. I am flat footed so I am sure that is source of many of my problems. While I roll my feet with a ball after a run, I am always looking for other methods to ease my foot pain during recovery. I have heard great things about OOFOS sandals (https://www.oofos.com/) and I could not pass up an opportunity to try them. The OOFO OOlala sandal is amazing and exceeded my expectations.

The Shoes

Unlike recreational sandals, OOFOS are designed for athletic recovery. The OOFOS OOlala soles are made of thick shock absorbent foam that reduces shock by 37% to provide additional support. They are designed to support your arches to reduce stress on your feet, knees, and back. The foam is moisture resistant and can be worn in the shower to bathe or cool down after a run.

The Fit

They are like no sandal I have every worn. When I first put them on I could feel the thick foam and my feet felt good. The soles do not lose their shape or sink like traditional sandals. They also gave me about an inch of height (a bonus).

My feet felt wonderful. I usually feel off balance while walking barefoot. After long runs, walking barefoot makes my hips hurt. When I walk with the OOFOS after long runs, there is no hip discomfort. I truly feel the OO! I can tell the difference in how my feet feel after wearing them as compared to going barefoot and waiting for time to ease the pain.

I plan to wear these sandals until they wear out and then I am going to buy another pair. My feet feel wonderful and I am taking them with me to Chicago to aid in my recovery after the race. These sandals make me more excited about running double digit mileage since I know my feet will recover faster. I am definitely on Team OO.
