Spring is slowly winding down and summer is quickly showing its hot presence. In the south, specifically ATL, summer brings a heat, humidity, and of course more heat. Even in late spring, the heat can make runs harder than usual. One challenge for me is hydrating during runs. I have tried different systems in which I have designated for specific distances, but I am always on the lookout for others. The Orange Mud Gear Vest Pro (https://www.orangemud.com/collections/running-packs/products/gear-vest-pro-green-white-clothing) is a different hydration experience for me since I have never used a bladder system for running.
The Gear Vest Pro has a easy to fill 1L bladder that is secured by plastic slider and held in place by velcro in one of the back pockets. I love Orange Mud hydration products because they have many storage pockets and this pack did not disappoint. The Gear Vest Pro has 7 pockets, including the bladder hydration pocket, that are perfect for storing all your stuff. Let's check out the other components of the pack.
In the past I have avoided bladder-based hydration packs since they can be hard to clean and are difficult to refill during a race. The bladder on the pack was super easy to fill. It was secured by folding down the top and sliding on the grey holder. The bladder was connected to a detachable hose has a mouthpiece. The hose was secured on the vest by elastic bands on the front. The water flows by biting down on the mouthpiece. To avoid issues with cleaning and mold, I only used water in the bladder. I also drained and dried the bladder and hose after each use.
The bladder and hose apparatus and fits in the back of the pack. The hose is detachable.

As I mentioned earlier, the pockets are my favorite feature of Orange Mud hydration packs. They are perfect for storing phones, gels, sunglasses, bottles, and just about anything you need during your run. I love using the front pockets for my phone and shades because it makes grabbing items convenient and easy. The front pockets were secured by elastic fasteners. I used the zippered pocket in the back to store my keys.
Since this is my third Orange Mud hydration pack, I knew what to expect for the fit. The pack is secured in the front with two adjustable straps with a clasp. The pack can fit all chest sizes snuggly without discomfort. I also did not experience any chafing while using the pack.
Running with the pack
I used the pack for my midweek and Peachtree Road Race training runs. The pack is light, even with a full bladder. I would hear the water moving, but that was comforting to me to know I had something to drink. I filled my pockets with my keys, phone, and shades to keep my hands free. Drinking from the bladder was easy and allowed me to sip without having to stop.
Overall I like the Orange Mud Gear Vest Pro and plan to use it for training runs and races in which bladder systems are allowed. Even without the bladder, I love all the pockets and plan to use it to carry my items so I don't have to try to cram all my items in a waistband.
