Philadelphia Hot Chocolate Race

This spring racing season included a trip to Philadelphia to run the Hot Chocolate 15k. This was my third major out of state race. Typically I don’t like to travel for races, but I am finding that I am getting bored running in Atlanta all the time. Running in Philly was also an opportunity to determine if I want to run the Rock ‘n’ Roll Philly race. Running this race was an adventure. First, the flights from Atlanta were delayed and my running buddies and I were worried that we would miss the expo. Thankfully Ram Racing was gracious in helping us with this issue. We made it to the expo in time to pick up our packets. The expo was similar to the one in Atlanta. I couldn’t resist buying Sweaty Bands, but that is another post. I took plenty of pictures in my RunATL shirts to show my support of Atlanta runners.

Race Day: The weather was nice and the starting line was near the Philadelphia Museum of Art. The terrain was exactly the same as Savannah, completely flat. I ran the first mile in less than 9 minutes. We ran the remaining 8 miles around a park. I ran all miles sub 10 minutes/mile. While I enjoyed the “easy” route, it was difficult mentally since there wasn’t much to see. I do not like out and back runs, so it was a struggle. Overall it was a great race and I met some new Black Girls Run friends.

Instagram - Another great race is complete. This is my first race that I ran sub
