The Thanksgiving Half Marathon concludes Triple Peach 2018! This year was my second year completing the Triple Peach series. Triple Peach consists of the AJC Peachtree Road Race, PNC 10-Miler, and the Thanksgiving Half Marathon. I already wrote about the Peachtree Road Race and the 10-Miler. While I consistently run the Peachtree and the 10-Miler, I rarely run on Thanksgiving. This year, since I had a free entry I stayed in town to take down the 13.1 miles to finish Triple Peach. How was the half marathon?
Packet Pick Up
This year packet pick up was in a new location in Atlantic Station. Pick up was quick and easy. There was plenty of merchandise for sale and props for pictures. I picked my packet and was out in less than 5 minutes. Parking was also free for the first 2 hours.
Race Day
The race started at the Georgia State stadium (former Turner Field). The best part was there were plenty of free parking. The half marathon started at 7:45 am after the 5k race. I was in Corral C with my favorite run buddies. While the course was slightly changed, it was still classic ATL running (hills, thrills, and chills).
The most amazing part of the race was that I cut more than 20 minutes off my previous time for this race, but it was a struggle. I switched back to using GU gels after using Gatorade Endurance earlier in the season. By mile 12 I was totally out of energy. Thankfully a run angel gave me half of his banana at mile 12. I finished in 2:27, which is 22 minutes faster than the last time I ran the race. I am rebooting my sub 2 efforts and hoping to reach the goal for Publix next year.
Along with our half marathon finisher medal, we also received our Triple Peach medal and tee-shirt and personal size pie. I am proud of my sub 2:30 finish. This month I have run two sub 2:30 half marathons and I was so excited about my progress. I have not run a sub 2:30 in many years and I am glad the times finally reflect all my training efforts.
