Big Peach Sizzler 2019

On September 2 I ran the Big Sizzler 10k race. This is my third time running this race and my friends and I have turned it into an annual Labor Day tradition. This year the course had a slight change in the route, but overall it was fun as usual.

Packet Pick Up

The race offered several days of packet pick up at various Big Peach Running Company stores in metro Atlanta. Thankfully, Big Peach Decatur was one of the locations and I was able to pick up my shirt in my neighborhood. Getting my bib was a breeze and they also had free snacks. The race offered tee-shirts in multiple colors. They had run out of tee-shirts in my size when I picked up my bib, but I was able to pick it up at the end of the race.

Race Day

One thing I love about this race is that it starts near the Chamblee MARTA station, which offers racers free parking. While the race this year had a slightly different starting point, about 95% of the race remained the same.

I used this race as a training run for the Rock 'n' Savannah half marathon. I started off great, but the sun woke up around mile 2. Overall my pace was fine. I ran 2 min/30 sec intervals as needed. While I didn't PR, I did beat my 2019 Peachtree Road Race time (yay!).

The post-race party was awesome. We received printed cooling towels. There was beer, snacks, and food from the Flying Biscuit. The race also offered free shuttle rides back to the Chamblee MARTA station. I plan to come run the race next year, hopefully faster and stronger.
