This year I opted out the Atlanta Track Club Triple Series (Peachtree Road Race, ATL 10 Miler, and Thanksgiving Half Marathon) so I can enjoy my week off for Thanksgiving. What's the best way to get miles and enjoy the warm weather of Florida, my home state?

A virtual 5k!

To sweeten the race I bribed my 8 year old nephew to join for the race. His prize for running was a trip to any restaurant for lunch as a post-race celebration. He choose Chick Fil A so we both had something exciting to look forward to after the run.

The race took place on Nov 27. My nephew was excited to join me on his first 5k and we ran an out and back route near my mother's home. To keep my nephew engaged, I let him wear my Fitbit.

Mile 0-0.5

We ran 30:30 intervals for the first half mile. My nephew had just woke up and since I wasn't sure of his fitness level the interval gave him time to run and walk a little. At half a mile, he asked if we could walk the course and we did just that for the remainder of the distance.

Mile 1: The course was flat and my nephew was so excited (check out his pic).

Mile 2: The fun continued as headed back to my mother's house. Since we were walking we discussed we planned to eat at lunch. He was still super excited at mile 2. I think the oranges were over the moon with our progress.

Mile 3.1-We did it and were both all miles.

Our official time was 1:03:39. I was proud of my nephew and grateful that he joined me on the NYRR Virtual Turkey Trot. As promised we went to Chick Fil A for lunch.
