DeKalb 4 Miler

Last Saturday I ran the Atlanta Track Club DeKalb 4 Miler race. This race is part of the Grand Prix series and is free to Atlanta Track Club members. This was my first time in 2 years running the race due to scheduling conflicts in previous years. Usually the race is held in July, a week or two after the Peachtree Road Race, but this year it was held the first week in August.

The race started at 7:30 am. Due to the nature of the race, there is race day sign up and bib pick up and no expo. I walked to the race from my home and arrived a few minutes before take off. Prior to my arrival the race had run out of bibs, so I used my Garmin watch as my official tracking time.

The route was unchanged from the past. The course has rolling hills and is classic ATL running. I started off running well and about 1.5 miles in my stomach was screaming for food. Thankfully a friend gave me some energy blocks around mile 3 and my stomach calmed down.

I finished strong in 48:43 (12:02 average pace). This was a great training run for Rock 'n' Roll Savannah training. My plan is to continue to run strong, incorporate weight training, and monitor my diet for Savannah.
