Each year in the US 9,500 people are diagnosed with skin cancer each day (https://www.aad.org/media/stats/conditions/skin-cancer). Skin cancer is one of the most deadly forms of cancer. Thankfully there are many measures that can be taken prevent and reduce the likelihood of developing it. As an African American, I don't always use sunblock or sunscreen unless I plan to be in direct sun (ex: at the beach) for an extended period of time. All races can develop skin cancer so testing Sawyer Stay Put sunscreen lotion SPF 30 (https://sawyer.com/products/stay-put-sunscreen-system-spf-30/) was opportunity for me to improve my UV skin care.

The details

Sawyer Stay Put Sunscreen Lotion offers SPF 30 UV protection to prevent sunburns. The lotion goes on clear and has the heavenly sunscreen smell (it reminds me of the beach). It is also formulated to be sweat-proof. The sunscreen is applied 15 minutes before sun exposure and must be reapplied every 2 hours. The sunscreen is not waterproof, but since I wasn't swimming all was well.

Using the sunscreen

The temperature was over 90 degrees every day this summer. I wore the sunscreen for my weekly neighborhood runs and for races. The back of my neck is my biggest area of concern and I made sure that always applied the sunscreen to that location. I also used it on my arms and legs.

The Outcome

My skin was safe and did not burn. My neck, which burns every time I am exposed to the sun, was good. Also, the lotion did not stain my clothes or leave any residue. I plan to continue to use the Sawyer sunscreen as part of my UV skincare. I want to protect my skin from cancer and other damage caused by UV radiation.
