Every day in the US half a billion plastic straws are thrown away. If you think about the amount that is discarded within the year, the figure is jaw dropping. Even though I only use 1-2 disposable straws a week, my contribution to the country's non-biodegradable waste can be improved. I received a pack of six regular size straws. I also received X-wide, standard size, and extra long straws that were packaged in a tin box.
Standard Size Straws
I am an avid sweet tea drinker and I can often be found consuming a cup at Starbucks or Chick Fil A. I used the standard straw for my sweet tea cups. The tin case was very convenient for running with my straw. I ran with my straw in my running pack and used it for my post-run sweet tea.
X-long straw
I also like purchasing reusable cups at thrift stores. I always throw the straw away due to safety concerns. The X-long straw was perfect for my thrifted Starbucks cup. Due the flexible silicone, It was easy to insert the straw through the hole in the lid.
X-wide straw
This straw is perfect for smoothies. Since I am not much of a smoothie drinker, I just used it for normal beverages. The opening is wide enough for thick drinks.
The Verdict
I love these straws! They are great replacement for plastic straws. They are easy to use and clean. Now when I go to Starbucks and Chick Fil A, I bring them with me. Using these straws will help me to reduce and eventually eliminate my use of plastic straws. This will go along way in helping to reduce the amount of plastics that are buried in landfills each day.
