This year the Peachtree Road Race was postponed from July 4 to Thanksgiving Day. In honor of my yearly tradition, I ran a 10k on July 4th. I opted to combine my virtual Peachtree Road Race (#Mypeachtree) with my weekly Garmin training. I ran a 10k route through Emory University and Decatur. This run did not count as the virtual race.
The run was mentally tough. I wanted to run with my friends through all the sprinklers to the finish line. I really missed the Holy Water and crowds. I started well, but around the 5k mark, I really just want to give up and walk the rest of the way. At mile 5, I realize that I was still running well and I mustered up the courage to run the last 1.2 miles.
Despite all my mental hang ups, I shaved 3 minutes off my 2019 PTRR time. I also ran the 10k faster than I did in April and May. I am looking forward to running the virtual PTRR later this year and the physical race next year.
